This screening aims to look at queer ecologies through filmmaking within Portugal. By approaching the land and our relation to it, these films expand on our understanding of a community, nationality, landscape, morality and sexuality. It is when these ulterior ecosystems clash with normative behaviour, we start to question the way we live.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Queer Lisboa’s director João Ferreira and curator João Conceição.

The short films selected for this screening have won prizes and been presented at festivals such as Berlin, Chicago, Toronto and New York Film Festival.

Queer Lisboa – International Queer Film Festival is the first Portuguese Film Festival dedicated exclusively to screening gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and transsexual themed films, a genre known as Queer Cinema. This is a genre that outbreaks with increasing expression in major international film festivals and it’s the goal of Queer Lisboa to program what is more relevant in aesthetic and narrative terms in the worldwide panorama, trying to compensate the fact that the access to this cinema is restricted to the mainstream audience.

We are delighted to partner with Queer Lisboa to bring you this film programme.
