After a long pandemic-induced hiatus Deptford Cinema is back screening films. Whilst we seek a new permanent venue, we have entered into an exciting partnership with Deptford Lounge and The Albany to show a season of carefully curated films over the coming months as some COVID restrictions are lifted and we can again begin to enjoy cinema as a social experience. All within the beating heart of Deptford!

For our second indoor screening Deptford Cinema will be showing the classic 1980 musical THE BLUES BROTHERS. This is part of our summer film programme organised in partnership with the Albany and Deptford Lounge.

All our screenings at the Albany and Deptford Lounge follow COVID social distancing and safety regulations. See below for further details.

* Note: Due to social distancing seating arrangements, we will not be able to admit anybody into the venue after 19:00. We advise you to arrive between 18:30 and 18:50. *

Kick away the lockdown lows with the Brothers Blues. The music from a succession of soul legends James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles AND the band would be enough to do that but there is so much more to this crazy classic. Whether it be Chicago car chases, teasing Twiggy, neutralising Nazis or not so gently letting down Princess Leia this film has something for everyone. A sumptuous celebration of Soul (and Country) (and Western).

Belushi and Aykroyd come over as hard-boiled city guys, total cynics with a world-view of sublime simplicity, and that all fits perfectly with the movie’s other parts. There’s even room, in the midst of the carnage and mayhem, for a surprising amount of grace, humor, and whimsy.
— Roger Ebert
