We launch our new partnership with The Brookmill with a Sci-Fi Sundays screening of ‘Ghost in the Shell’. Mamoru Oshii’s anime masterpiece from 1995, based on the manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow, it’s themes of artificial intelligence, transhumanism and cybernetic augmentation have echoed in cinema ever since, with The Matrix creators citing it specifically as their primary inspiration. ‘Ghost in the Shell’ has never been more relevant.

In a hyper-connected 2029, cyborg super-cop Major Motoko Kusanagi hunts a ghost-hacking criminal known only as the Puppet Master, only to find the chase forcing her to question the very nature of her own identity.

A neo-noir, part action manga adaptation that was well ahead of its time, exploring complicated ideas about humanity, ethics, technology, selfhood, and memory.
