10. Black History Month: The History of Black Horror Cinema
Episode 10 - 28/10/20
Deptford Cinema volunteers Maria & Frankie talk about the history of black representation in horror films, from the blaxploitation era to the 1990s/early 2000s.
We discuss how horror films made by Black filmmakers or with Black casts differ (or not) from other types of horror film in terms of what is shown to be scary. Horror films often reflect what people are afraid of in their everyday lives to some extent, but when these films centre Black people those fears are often very different or much more nuanced.
