The NY Portuguese Short Film Festival (NYPSFF) was the first Portuguese short film festival in the United States. The Festival is produced and hosted by the Arte Institute and showcases fiction, animation and documentary short films. The festival consists of the screening of 15 short films produced in Portugal and abroad by Portuguese filmmakers. The 9th edition of the NYPSFF promotes the best work of a new generation of young Portuguese filmmakers, providing them with an opportunity to screen their movies in many countries around the globe, such as the United States, Portugal, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Australia, South Africa, Angola, Germany, Canada, China, France, Equatorial Guinea, Hungary, India, Kenya, Mozambique, Romania, Senegal, Thailand, Croatia, São Tomé e Príncipe, Czech Republic, Cape Verde, Brazil, Poland and Timor.

The Arte Institute, founded on April 11, 2011, is a non-profit organization that promotes culture and showcases art from Portugal. It is a space that offers a creative environment for Portuguese artists in the field of art, literature, music, dance and film.
