We are pleased to announce the revival of Deptford Cinema’s Film and Book Club in 2023! Following a successful book swap and social in January 2023, we will meet every 2nd Sunday of the month to discuss films and books at Music Room London.

Please note that this event does not include a screening. Please view the film before you come along - and if you feel like a deeper dive, dip into some of the suggested reading or podcast listed below.

In February, we will be watching the film Saint Omer, directed by Alice Diop. Winner of the Silver Lion and Best Debut Feature at Venice 2022, this French drama follows a novelist who attends the trial of Laurence Coly at the Saint-Omer Criminal Court to use her story to write a modern-day adaptation of the ancient myth of Medea, but things don't go as expected.

UK cinema release: 3rd February 2023. Screening at ICA (3-9 February) Ritzy Picturehouse (3-5 February) Cine Lumiere and Crouch End Picturehouse.

Suggested Reading:

BOOK: Pandora’s Jar - Women in the Greek Myths by Natalie Haynes
