The fifth film in our Ang Lee’s Chinese Classics Season.
Provocative, thrilling and sensual, Lust, Caution sets against the backdrop of a transforming country, where a young woman finds herself swept up in a radical plot to assassinate a ruthless and secretive intelligence agent. As she immerses herself in her role as a cosmopolitan seductress, she becomes entangled in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue, love and betrayal.
This erotic espionage period thriller is based on the novella of the same name published in 1979 by Chinese author Eileen Chang. The story is mostly set in Hong Kong in 1938 and in Shanghai in 1942, when it was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army.
The film won the 2007 Golden Lion International Venice Film Festival Award
