Set in sunny Portugal, the film follows the typical lazy summer of a young girl called Rita. She spends her days with her best friend, watching TV and commiserating over boys. But as Rita becomes infatuated with her new neighbour and his artworks, the world around her begins to change and inexplicable things occur...
Director João Nicolau masterfully melds the familiar with the strange (he's a friend of Miguel Gomes after all). John From is packed with colour, mystery, humour and magic; it's really really cute and I just love this film.
