We close our short series with one of her more complex and longer features from this period, Doris Wishman's 1968 film, Indecent Desires. This film's eerie, occult twist that pits a young woman's sexuality against her stalkers voodoo-like powers showcases some of the more typical elements found in the narratives of the roughies - a young woman manipulated violently and sexually by the narrative itself. And yet, Wishman's incomparable style and incomprehensible directing point away from these common features. Instead, our protagonist's sexuality is at the site of battle, invaded from afar by a seemingly unspecific force.
Trigger warnings for sexual violence.
