The Tibet Film Festival was founded in 2008, inspired by Dhondup Wangchen, a self-taught Tibetan filmmaker, who was imprisoned for his film ‘Leaving Fear Behind’. This 2-day film festival takes place annually in Dharamsala (India) and Zurich (Switzerland) and now for the first time in London. The festival showcases films made by Tibetans inside Tibet and in exile. The first day of the festival in London will take place in Deptford and the second day in Woolwich.

Deptford Cinema screening details below! The festival is in three parts. A special gift awaits anyone who buys tickets for all three parts!

1pm (Part 1): Intro + Leaving Fear Behind (2008) + Wangdrak's Rain Boots (2018)

In Part 1 of the day, the London organisers will introduce the story of the Tibet Film Festival and then screen ‘Leaving Fear Behind’ (26 mins). After a short break there will be a rare screening of the charming feature film from Tibet "Wangdrak's Rain Boots" (90 mins).

4pm (Part 2): The Sweet Requiem (2018) + Discussion with Students for a Free Tibet UK

In Part 2 of the day, we'll be screening the riveting and moving feature film "The Sweet Requiem" by Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin. The film played earlier in the year in London to sold out crowds as part of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival so this is a great chance to catch it if you missed it then.

After the screening there will be a discussion on the themes in the film with representatives from Students for a Free Tibet UK, National Director Drukthar Gyal and Anna Menon. The discussion will be moderated by Tibet Film Festival Co-Producer Dechen Pemba.

After the films there will be a Q&A with Tenzin Dazel and Royal Cafe actress, the Zurich based Pema Shitsetsang. The Q&A will be moderated by Tibet Film Festival Co-Producer Kunsang Kelden.
