Split again into 4 quarterly mini-seasons our 2020 programme will delve into themes of paranoia and invasion, marvel at the mysteries of the mind, journey across the universe and show you that nothing is quite what it seems…

Alongside each screening we’ve organised a little something extra; quizzes, short-films, expert talks discussions and much more.

In David Cronenberg’s dystopian thriller rival groups of ‘scanners’ - telepathically enhanced humans with lethal capabilities - battle for control of their lives. On one side the sinister corporation ConSec seeks to employ and utilise the ‘scanners’ for it’s own nefarious intent. On the other side rebel ‘scanners’ led by Darryl Revok attempt to destroy the company. After several ConSec staff are murdered by Revok, ConSec enlists a powerful but disturbed ‘scanner’ named Cameron Vale to infiltrate Revok’s gang and destroy him.

Cronenberg’s films have always featured iconic imagery but perhaps never more so than in Scanners - whose infamous ‘exploding head scene’ is far more widely known than the film itself. But those who only know the film for its grisly special effects are missing out on a complex, and sinister espionage thriller: in the words of Kim Newman ‘a literal mutation of paranoid thrillers like The Parallax View’.

Brilliantly conceived...Cronenberg ratchets up the tension to unbearable levels.
