IRISH WAYS (1988) - The Films of Arthur MacCaig

TIYM for stills.00_20_21_22.Still021 - reduced.jpg

Filmed in Belfast 10 years after The Patriot Game, Arthur MacCaig's Irish Ways - shot on vivid 16mm film stock - is a more lyrical, character-centred successor to his earlier film, letting the political situation unveil itself through individual portraits of Republican and Loyalist paramilitaries, RUC officers and victims of violence. MacCaig investigates the pervasive atmosphere of fear and mistrust, from constant surveillance of neighborhoods and business districts to television advertisements encouraging citizens to report suspicious neighbors to British troops.
