Join us for the first meet-up of the autumn/winter season of Deptford Cinema’s Film and Book Club at Music Room London.
In September, we will be discussing inter-species coexistence inspired by a documentary film and nonfiction book connected by a love of raptors. All that Breathes directed by Shaunac Sen features two brothers, Nadeem and Saud, who devote their lives to saving the black kite, a majestic bird of prey falling from the polluted skies of New Delhi at an alarming rate. H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald is a tangled story of grief during a year of training a northern goshawk following the death of Macdonald’s father.
FILM: All that Breathes dir. Shaunac Sen 2022. Winner of Sundance Best Documentary prize and Best Documentary Cannes 2022. (Streaming with Now subscription or rent from Apple TV, BFI player rentals, Youtube, Google Play, Amazon Video and Microsoft)
BOOK: H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. Winner of the Samual Johnson Prize and Costa Book of the Year in 2014. (Available from most book stores and public libraries - please support your local independent store if possible)
Drinks and snacks can be purchased from the bar.
*Please note that this event does not include a screening. Please watch the film in your own time before the meet-up and discussion
