Reel Good Film Club are a London-based film club aiming to highlight diversity and the work of people of colour in film through affordable and inclusive screenings and events.
Dirty Computer is an “emotion picture” created as an accompaniment to Janelle Monae’s latest album of the same name. In a distant future, Android Jane 57821 (Janelle Monae) has been captured by a totalitarian society, hellbent on re-programming her brain and making her conform. But a chance encounter with a figure from her past (Dear White People/Creed star Tessa Thompson) might provide the key to Jane’s escape...
Directed by Deep Cotton musician Chuck Lightning and making great use of Monae’s music (and a whole lot of “bisexual lighting”), Dirty Computer is a slice of afro-futurist dystopia that deserves to be appreciated on the big screen.
Following the film, in true Reel Good Film Club tradition we’ll be hosting an afro-futurism-inspired music video party. Expect to see videos from artists including Janelle herself, Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson and many more, plus the chance to request your favourite videos!
