25 years of Deptford X: Special Screening 'Contradictions' by Maj Rafferty & Barkosina Hanusova with Deptford Cinema and Hartslane.
Deptford Cinema is screening the film ‘Contradictions' from 2021 and marking the 25 year anniversary of Deptford Fringe X. 'Contradictions' is a unique hybrid between film and performance art, and is based around five original performance pieces by Czech performance and sound artist Barkosina Hanusova.
The performances have been translated into moving images by director Maj Rafferty as a collaboration between the two artists and the two mediums, film and performance art. It was filmed in London and many parts in Deptford, where both artists have been based. It deals with themes such as institution, immigration, class society, the female body, (digital) addiction and the contradictions of the big city.
'Contradictions' has won a prize in the category Performing Arts in India at Tagore International Film Festival, and best experimental feature film at Melbourne Underground Film Festival
