PEOPLE OF IRELAND - The Oppositional Films of Cinema Action

freeDerry.jpg

A document of the self-declared autonomous nationalist area of Free Derry in 1969, Cinema Action interviewed militants, community leaders, priests, a Stormont Minister and unemployed workers, filming mass meetings behind barricades, the Labour Home Secretary James Callaghan’s visit and battles between republicans and the police, creating a portrayal of the establishment of Free Derry as a step towards a workers' republic.
