Almost Famous follows the coming-of-age adventure of 15 year old William Miller, a deeply uncool child prodigy and music superfan, who stumbles into the opportunity to hit the road with rising yet troubled rock band Stillwater while profiling them for Rolling Stone magazine. Thrown into the dizzying seductive world of sex, drugs and rock n roll, William has to negotiate all the usual raging teen hormones and desire for independence, as well as straddling the line between fandom and vocation. A host of colourful characters populate his formative journey including Billy Crudup as Stillwater’s tortured lead guitarist Russell Hammond, Kate Hudson as the enchanting yet vulnerable head 'Band Aid' Penny Lane, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as William’s idol and mentor, music critic Lester Bangs. There is also a magnificent supporting turn from Frances McDormand as William’s overbearing mother.

Humorous, poignant and unabashedly nostalgic, the film is semi-autobiographical, as writer/director Cameron Crowe heavily drew upon his own experiences as a teen writer for Rolling Stone and growing up in the 1970s rock scene. He won the Oscar for best Original Screenplay for his efforts.

The Forever Young Film Club are a brand new film collective determined to celebrate and reappraise classic coming-of-age and teen films, while also exploring lesser known gems through regular screenings and events.
