Deptford Cinema’s ‘EAST ASIA FILM CLUB’ is a new monthly programme which will present the very best cinema from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.
For our opening film, we're going big, and screening perhaps the most popular film of the Asian Extreme wave of the early 2000's.....
We invite you to make part in a deadly BATTLE ROYALE!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Set in a near-future Japan where figures of authority have lost control and teenagers have lost respect, the government steps in and devises a radical solution: The Battle Royale Act!
A teacher (played by the legendary Takeshi Kitano), pushed to the edge by his unruly pupils, agrees to have his class kidnapped, gassed and transported to an island where they will be forced to fight to the death.
Armed with a mixture of cross-bows, machetes and.... saucepans, the pupils see their friendship groups torn apart: from now on it's kill-or-be-killed, as only one classmate can survive!
Battle Royale makes The Hunger Games seem like a picnic...
