ANOTE’S ARK (2018)
+ GUEST SPEAKER: CLIMATE ACTION LEWISHAM (scroll down for more details)
DIR. Matthieu Rytz
COUNTRY. Canada
RUN-TIME. 1h 17m
Film start time: 6:45PM
What if your country was swallowed by the sea?
The Pacific Island nation of Kiribati is one of the most remote places on the planet, seemingly far-removed from the pressures of modern life. Yet it is one of the first countries that must confront the main existential dilemma of our time: imminent annihilation from sea-level rise.
Set against the backdrop of international climate and human rights negotiations, ANOTE’S ARK follows Kiribati’s President, Anote Tong, racing to find a way to protect Kiribati’s people and maintain their dignity.
Anote’s struggle to save his homeland is intertwined with the extraordinary fate of Tiemeri, a young mother of six, who fights to migrate her family to New Zealand. At stake is the survival of Tiemeri’s family, the Kiribati people, and 4,000 years of Kiribati culture.
“A sobering reality check.” — Hollywood Reporter
“ANOTE’S ARK does indeed tackle the subject of climate change, but instead of throwing endless facts and figures at the audience, it focuses on a real-world situation that can be witnessed right now.”

HOW TO LET GO OF THE WORLD (2016)
DIR. Josh Fox
COUNTRY. USA
RUN-TIME. 2h 07m
Film start time: 9:00 PM
In HOW TO LET GO OF THE WORLD (AND LOVE ALL THE THINGS CLIMATE CAN’T CHANGE), Oscar-nominated director Josh Fox (GASLAND) continues investigating climate change in his deeply personal style.
Traveling to 12 countries on 6 continents, the film acknowledges that it may be too late to stop some of the worst consequences and asks: what is it that climate change can’t destroy? What is so deep within us that no calamity can take it away?
After admitting that he is resigned to pure hopelessness, Fox suddenly shifts tactics, seeking out ground-level activists around the world who have come up with local solutions to climate problems. “I needed to find the people who’d found this place, this place of despair, and gotten back up,” he narrates.
“Tough. As in, tough to watch. Tough to consider. Tough to ignore.” — The NY Times
“An energetic and positive story about actions real people can take to engage in this important issue.”
— Salt Lake Tribune
