Doors 12:15
Workshop: 12:30

Film Programming can be a mythical thing but what is it really about? How does a cinema work in the framework of exhibition? How can you make the most of your Student Cinema, Community Cinema or college/university-based Film Society/Club?

In this workshop, we'll be covering these areas:

*Programming Essentials - What are film licenses and why do you need them? Where can you find licenses / understanding distributors?

*Understanding Audiences & Active Outreach - How do you consider audience interests in programming? How do you programme an effective event? How can we use social media & 1:1 / grassroots methods to reach audiences through organic, direct methods?

*Sourcing Films from Filmmakers & Students - How do you find films for/from students? What formats can we screen from? How do we screen them using cinema equipment? (Followed by a basic overview of screening & delivery formats + storage/tech ideas for student cinemas thinking of investing in equipment!)

*Cinema Productivity & Resources - What apps should we use for ticketing/managing sales & bookings? How can I streamline our admin/archival workflow? How can we manage our cinema more efficiently overall? We'll be using a few basic examples of apps: Eventbrite, QLab and Google Drive.

Everyone is welcome, although this workshop is specifically aimed at Student & Young Exhibitors & Programmers as we'll be covering these areas in depth by using case studies of various student cinemas.

There'll be various Film Programming Workshops run throughout the year at Deptford Cinema including workshops on the Admin and Event aspects [specific to the cinema as a volunteer, but applicable to your own too!]

*Note: If there any specific questions you have about your Student/Community Cinema, feel free to ask them at the end of the session and hopefully they can be answered!
