Christiane F. portrays the drug scene in Berlin in the 1970s, following tape recordings of 14-year-old Christiane. She's fascinated by 'The Sound', a new disco with the most modern equipment. Although legally she's too young, she asks a friend to take her. There, she meets Detlef, who's in a clique where everybody's into drugs. Step by step she gets drawn deeper into the scene.
The film, based on a true story, is one of the most iconic cult movies to have ever come out of Germany. It became notorious as one of the most unremittingly grim portraits of drug addiction ever filmed, but also vividly captures the dreams and nightmares of a generation.
The movie features David Bowie as both himself and the soundtrack composer.
