Text: The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine

DC Film and Book club is entering in to the next decade with the new year’s resolution of learning about sub-prime mortgages and collateralised debt obligations so that we can fully understand one of the most seismic cultural events of this century - the financial crisis.

This January we are screening Adam McKay’s academy award winning adaptation of The Big Short by Michael Lewis. Expect the 4th wall to be broken down for explanations of complex financial instruments by Margot Robbie, Anthony Bourdain, Selena Gomez and Richard Thaler.

Afterwards we’ll be wrapping our heads around the events leading up to the crash with our post-screening discussion of the book and we’ll have a subject-matter expert on hand to answer questions and help us understand what exactly went wrong in 2008.
.

Margot Robbie as… herself.

Margot Robbie as… herself.

A true crime story and a madcap comedy, a heist movie and a scalding polemic, “The Big Short” will affirm your deepest cynicism about Wall Street while simultaneously restoring your faith in Hollywood.
