Winner of the Grand Jury prize at the Sheffield Documentary Festival, nominated for a BAFTA and named as the third best film of 2015 by The Guardian, A Syrian Love Story follows Amer and Raghda, comrades and lovers who met in a Syrian prison cell. When director Sean McAllister first meets them in 2009, Raghda is back in prison and Amer is looking after their four sons alone. But when the Arab Spring spreads through the region, the family’s fortunes shift dramatically. Shot over 5 years, this film charts their astonishing journey, one of hope, dreams and sadness: for revolution, their homeland and one another.

Also showing as part of our Sean McAllister retrospective (Sat 03/11- Sun 04/11): The Reluctant Revolutionary, Japan: A Story of Love and Hate, A Northern Soul + Q&A with director
