INFILTRATE HATE! Our Spike Lee Mixtape Season gains a special extra screening this winter, as the acclaimed director's latest award-winning thriller has become available for us to book!
Winner of the Grand Prize of the Jury at Cannes, 2018, BlacKkKlansman (2018) sees director Spike Lee in typically uncompromising form, with a fascinating, darkly funny and often disturbing true story at the heart of this '70s-set police drama. This story may be set decades ago, but the narrative speaks to today all too clearly.
Ron Stallworth (John David Washington), an African American police officer from Colorado Springs and the first black cop in his precinct, successfully manages via phone to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan branch with the help of his Jewish cop partner (Adam Driver), who eventually becomes its leader. Ron even becomes phone buddies with the notorious racist Klan leader David Duke (Topher Grace), but his budding relationship with black student activist Patrice (Laura Harrier) - who is wary of the police- raises doubts in his mind as to where his decisions will take him and what that will mean for his own sense of identity.
"...a blistering return to form for Spike Lee" - Mark Kermode, The Observer ☆☆☆☆.
