In 1979, council housing was home to 42% of Britons. Today, it houses just 8%.

From the Right to Buy scheme that allowed working class tenants to become home owners to governments who failed to meet demand and the profit-driven interests of private developers and housing associations, the UK now faces a chronic shortage of social housing. A crisis that has led to a waiting list of 1.4 million people and 250,000 classed as homeless, amidst changes in housing policy, it suggests the end of social housing as we know it.

An urgent argument for housing to be further up the political agenda, Dispossession - directed by Paul Sng (Sleaford Mods – Invisible Britain) and narrated by Maxine Peake (Shameless, See No Evil, Three Girls) - talks to residents, politicians and housing experts. It is the story of people fighting for their homes, families and communities who believe housing should be a human right, not a luxury.

This screening is to mark National Housing Day - http://housingweek.co.uk/housingday/
