Ally (Kevin Guthrie) and Davy (George McKay), two childhood friends hailing from Edinburgh, return home after a tour in Afghanistan and begin to adjust to normal life again.

The concept alone would have made Sunshine On Leith a great little British drama, but the cherry on top is that this is a a jukebox musical featuring music by beloved Scottish band The Proclaimers, from Sky Takes The Soul all the way to their biggest hit, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).

Set in the gorgeous streets of the Scottish capital, Sunshine on Leith is the very definition of this season's theme, and therefore the perfect film to round it all off: a lovely British production with a lot of heart and some wonderful tunes to put a spring in your step this summer.

Big smiles are guaranteed for Dexter Fletcher’s charming musical monument to The Proclaimers.
— Ruth Carruthers, Little White Lies
What makes it work are the performers, particularly Mullan and Horrocks, who give it their considerable all.
— Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
The flash mob finale, with what looks like 500 dancing Edinburghers, is about the most fun I’ve had in a cinema this year.
— Paul Byrnes, Sydney Morning Herald
I shed a tear within the first 10 minutes, and spent the rest of the movie beaming like a gibbering, love-struck fool.
