Showing as one of two screenings to celebrate the birthday of late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, Close-Up remakes the true story of a film fan's attempt to become a director he admires. Hossein Sabzian introduces himself as celebrated Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf and, under the pretense of working on a new film, enters the household of a middle-class Tehran family, eventually leading to fraud charges. Audaciously, emotively mixing documentary and fiction by featuring the very people involved in the case while toying with our perceptions of truth and fantasy, Close-Up is widely considered as Abbas Kiarostami’s masterpiece.
