Directed by Joko Anwar, and produced by Sheila Timothy of Lifelike Pictures, Pintu Terlarang (meaning forbidden door) is based on the novel of the same name by Sekar Ayu Asmara. It is one of the best Indonesian films of recent years; Joko Anwar won the Best of Puchon award at the 2009 Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, and was nominated for the Golden Kinnaree Award at the 2009 Bangkok International Film Festival.

The life of a successful sculptor (played by Fachri Albar) gradually falls apart when he begins receiving mysterious messages asking for help. Meanwhile he begins to suspect that his appalling family, his friends and his agent are working in concert to manipulate him.

With a Hitchcockian plot and elements of body-horror and set design that resemble early David Cronenberg, ‘Pintu Terlarang’ is a film that will keep you guessing right to the end, and possibly even after you’ve left the cinema.
